Dr Sarah Mirams, author of Darebin Parklands: Escaping the Claws of the Machine, will share some of the fascinating takes she has uncovered while researching the book, at our next information evening on Tuesday 30 August at 8pm, in the parklands' environment centre.
Pre-orders for the book, which has a foreword by former Australian of the Year Professor Tim Flannery, will be taken on the night.

Kids' Catch a Carp Day returns to Darebin Parklands on Sunday 23 October. Join us for fun and fishing in the Darebin Parklands and help to rid the creek of a serious pest fish. Carp are an introduced fish that degrade waterways and displace our native species.
The day starts with a presentation by Julia Vanderoord of North East Melbourne Waterwatch, and finishes with a free sausage sizzle and the prize draw at 11.30.
The event is free for DPA Junior Ranger members (you can join on the day) and $2 for others. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Registration is at 9.15am at the Darebin Parklands Environment Centre, at the end of Separation Street, Alphington.
Please bring a rod if you have one; otherwise we have 20 for loan which will be given out on a first come first served basis (so please arrive early if you want to use one). Bait and nets provided.

We didn’t win the Community Action and Community Leadership categories of the the Keep Australia Beautiful Awards at the weekend, but big congratulations to the Friends of Ballarat Botanic Gardens and the EW Tipping Foundation, which did. There were some brilliant groups and projects on show at the event, and we are thrilled just to have made the finals. Check out our fantastic finalists certificates. Ranger Pete is going to have to extend the awards wall in the environment centre!
